Have a 4 year old LX 176. Last night when attempting to start, the engine turned once, no fire...then nothing. On subsequent tries the tractor was dead. Put the charger on for a half hour...upon trying to start, heard a rapid tapping sound for about 4 seconds (starter?)...but engine does not turn, or fire. Could it be a bad battery? Would appreciate any help before calling the dealer. Thanks!!!

Try jump starting with your car. If it starts but won't restart on its own its your battery.Otherwise, it could be the solenoid on the starter motor. ....

You may have thought of this already, but clean your battery contacts. I just had a similar problem with my garden tractor. Thought it may be time for a new started. Cleaned the contacts and it is as good as new. ....

Thanks for your help. Was the battery connection...used a file on both the post and cable end, and replaced the nut and bolt...they were so corroded that neither a metric or standard wrench would fit...had to get the vise grips. ....
